Open-source digital credential infrastructure.

Civitas provides open-source, standards-based digital credential infrastructure. It puts people in control of their own information. It is built for real-world institutional use.

A person arrives at the Migrant Resource Center to understand what is possible. They learn which documents they need to open a bank account, get a work permit, or start a business. They activate those steps in the Civitas ID App, where they hold digital credentials that governments, banks, employers, schools, health providers, and humanitarian organizations recognize. The orchestration engine connects users and institutions to each other so a digital credential issued by one becomes verifiable by another. Opening dignified pathways to self-reliance, economic participation, and meaningful inclusion.

User control

Individuals manage and share their digital credentials on their own terms.

Consent is opt-in and granular.

Authority to share stays with the person.

Portability

Digital credentials travel across borders and institutions.

They enable access to services, employment, and banking.

People do not have to start from zero each time they move or access a new service.

Trusted by institutions

The infrastructure works with governments, multilateral institutions, and private sector systems.

Digital credentials are easy for institutions to verify.

Institutions can extend services with confidence to people their systems would otherwise turn away.

Open source

The Civitas technology is open-source. A government, multilateral institution, NGO, or partner can take the open-source code, run it on their own infrastructure, and operate it independently. It is also inspectable, which means privacy and data handling claims can be verified rather than trusted.

Privacy by design

Only essential data is collected and shared with user consent.

Civitas ID does not use, store, or control user data.

The platform utilizes peer-to-peer protocols and selective disclosure to maintain data privacy while enabling credential verification.

The platform is GDPR-compliant by design and may be tuned to local privacy and data protection rules.

Standards-based architecture

The architecture is built on open standards for issuing and verifying credentials online: W3C Verifiable Credentials, Decentralized Identifiers, and OIDC4VC/OID4VP. It is modular, interoperable, and adaptable for partners, government systems and regions.

The Civitas ID App

The Civitas ID App is localized for each deployment context. In Kenya, that means automating access to the verifiable digital credentials that unlock the widest range of services. In Colombia, it means helping Venezuelan migrants and internally displaced individuals access verifiable digital credentials to open accounts, access capital, and formalize their businesses or secure employment.

The person sees what they need, what it unlocks, and what to do next. The credentials they hold in the app, travel with them and provide access to essential services.
